Before the mask: meet Batman

Batman is a real dog. NEAR cofounder Alex Skidanov shared him publicly on X: round, short-legged, with large upright ears.

In an earlier post, Alex identifies Batman and recalls that he was a puppy when a 2016 article was written. Those two posts are the factual foundation for everything else here.

The white mask, the lore, and this website are community additions. Alex did not create them and the posts do not endorse a token.

Batman in his white mask, the subject of this essay
Community lore

Why a mask makes sense

We tend to think of privacy as hiding. A mask suggests something else: you can be seen and still keep parts of yourself back.

Batman is easy to recognize. The ears, the belly, the lime collar. Nobody is confused about who he is. What the mask changes is what comes along with that recognition: where he goes, what he keeps, what he writes down.

Being recognizable does not require revealing everything.

That is the idea this community keeps returning to. Privacy is personal, it is ordinary, and it is about choosing your boundaries rather than disappearing.

Original essay by the dogwifmask community. Not a quotation.

The NEAR–Nullmask connection

NEAR Intents has announced its Confidential Intents integration into Nullmask’s bridge. That announcement is the real ecosystem link between NEAR and Nullmask.

Batman’s link to NEAR is separate: he appears in posts from Alex Skidanov. dogwifmask connects the two as a story. It is a community interpretation, not a partnership, and this site does not run any privacy technology.
